Reality check: Adam’s idol

Well, my friends, I think last night a winner was crowned. No, it wasn’t the season finale, but Adam Lamert’s rendition of “Mad World” was a full-on show stopper. Simon gave the kid a standing ovation and it ended with that. No words were spoken by the judges — none were necessary. I think that regardless of the outcome, this is one contestant we will definitely hear from in the future. His talent is only surpassed by his personality and stage presence. Just incredible.

With all of my niceness used up and out of the way, here’s what I have to say about a few other choice performances:

Gokey — He can sing, but ultimately I’m bored with him. I don’t know what it is exactly, but I actually like him less and less every week. He’s got a good voice but he annoys me. I’m bored with him.

Anoop  — Not a fan. Last night he gave a pretty good performance of “True Colors,” but I can’t help but think of his arrogant reaction to the judges’ critiques last week. Overall I just think he’s a douche with a severe case of only-child syndrome. I think it’s safe to say nobody loves Anoop more than Anoop. I’ll be happy to see him go in the coming weeks. No way he’ll make the finals.

Lil — I’m pretty sure we’ll see her in the bottom three tonight. You just don’t do Tina. I mean, Tina? Really? Come on. Bad move. She doesn’t have the chops for that song and if the judges ask her to sing a Mary J song one more time and she doesn’t listen, I’m going to impale myself with my TV remote. They’re basically telling her what to sing and she’s still making bad song choices. Imbecile.

Scott — Oh Scott. Go home. This kid’s out of his league and it’s becoming slightly embarrassing. “The Search is (definitely) Over,” and he’s not the one we’re looking for. His guitar playing was excruciating — I’m pretty sure I can play better than that and I suck. His singing was mediocre at best. He’s a nice guy and the truth is I’m not bashing him as harshly as I’d like to because he’s blind and I don’t want to be a prick. But the reality is, this guy has no business being on this stage and at this point I don’t think anyone can say he’s there for any reason other than the fact that he’s blind and people are voting because they feel bad or relate to him on some level. What bothered me the most was Paula’s patronizing comments. She said “bravo” to him even after she told him it wasn’t great. Why does he get a bravo, Paula? Because he’s blind?! That’s crap. I’m done with both of you. Go home.

Paula wasn’t as wasted as usual but I’d still say I saw a hint of catnip mixed with some MDMA. Just calling it like I see it, Paula!

Reality Check appears every Thursday, sometimes Tuesday and Wednesday, and there’s always a chance for some action on Monday… and Friday.
