Best steakhouse in the nation?
I work, I travel, I eat. That’s what I do. Last week I spent three days in Boston (my first trip to Beantown) and I believe I may have eaten at the best Steakhouse in the country.
Abe and Louie’s is a classic American Steakhouse in the Back Bay section of Boston. It has everything you’ve come to expect in your old school Steakhouse…clam chowder, Caesar salad, a big hunk of meat (my husband and I had the porterhouse for two), creamed spinach, hash brown potatoes, good red wine, and chocolate cake for dessert. Plus, a charming waiter named Kenny who seemed like he had worked there for at least 50 years.
I have eaten steak (and all the fixins) in approximately 24 states, but Abe and Louie’s was just better than the rest. From the comfortable seats and spacious table to the flavorful, juicy, Midwestern steak, everything was on point. The creamed spinach wasn’t as good as Peter Luger’s, but the hash browns more than made up for that. A crisp potato crust, with tender shredded potato inside, it was perfection.
For many years I have proclaimed Peter Luger’s my favorite steakhouse, but Abe and Louie’s is better. The steak–the main attraction–was far superior to the steak at Luger’s (or any other steakhouse I’ve ever been to). We were told that the most flavorful steak on the menu was, as usual, the ribeye, but we went with the porterhouse ($83 for 2 people). It was corn-fed (not ideal ecologically-speaking) and aged for six weeks. It needed no sauce, no salt or pepper, it was awesome. I would absolutely make a trip to Boston just to have this meal again.
Get yourself to Boston and tell Kenny I said hi.

Jessica, someday I hope to visit Boston and put Abe and Louie’s to the test. Until then, though, my steak-eating heart belongs to The Bull Ring in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Oooh I’ve never been to New Mexico but if I’m ever there I will absolutely check it out!!!
