This week I am digging virtualnes.com, XPN’s free at noon shows, and my girlfriend’s marathon finish

To kick things off this week,  I want to tell you all about a website that instantly brings me back to my childhood. VirtualNES.com is a site where you can legally and safely play almost any game from the Nintendo Entertainment system. It is hilarious to see how simple the games were then, and how far we have advanced in video game technology. I’m not a “gamer” by any means but love playing old Nintendo games and harking back to my youth of hanging out with my friends playing RBI Baseball and listening to the Beastie Boys “Licensed To Ill” over and over.

Another thing I am totally loving, and have been for about five years now is Philadelphia station 88.5 WXPN’s Free At Noon concert series. It is literally a free concert held at noon at the phenomenal World Cafe Live venue.  Best part? It is exactly two blocks from my office. I have seen some great established acts and some cool up and coming acts. To name drop a few- Joe Jackson, Widespread Panic, Barenaked Ladies, Coldwar Kids, The Hold Steady, Mike Doughty, Dr. Dog, Citizen Cope, Ben Folds and a ton of others- I can go on and on! So much better doing that on my lunch break rather than eating a greasy cheesesteak from a greasy lunch truck!

I would also like to take this moment to give a shout out to my girlfriend Cailin on her completion of the New Jersey Marathon. 26.2 miles in almost 90 degree weather – I don’t know how she does it!  This was her sixth marathon and although she didn’t qualify for Boston, she did finish even after hurting her hip at mile 9.  I will say I am glad I don’t have to hear wiseguys asking me if I am running it with her- but regardless in her honor I ate 26.2 buffalo wings. Ok, it was really 35. But who’s counting?

This week, I have nothing to ditch. Things are good!  I scored tickets to MGMT at the Mann Music Center which is my favorite outdoor venue. My employer- Drexel University admissions far beat out our admissions goal, and my house is almost through our remodeling project! So everything is coming up roses right now!
