Lauren likes TV: Bah humbug

“But that’s too strong cuz it is my favorite holiday.” It’s about that time… your turkey leftovers should be gone (and if they’re not, please throw them away), black friday and cyber monday are behind us, the big Christmas tree is lit at Rockefeller Center, and “Last Christmas” by Wham! is playing at every Gap across America.  It’s official, the holidays are here.

While Christmas, Hanukah, Chrismukkah, and New Years are still to come in our lives, for most of our favorite TV buddies, these holidays are a thing of the past and they’re practically celebrating Valentine’s Day already.  Best example… Grey’s Anatomy. In the last episode they covered Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years, and it looks like Grey’s won’t be back until January 14th (same with Private Practice). After this week,Gossip Girl returns on March 8th. Glee’s fall season concludes this week and won’t be back again until… gulp… April 13th. April. APRIL.  That’s just as long as summer hiatus… and the holiday hiatus is gonna be a drag too. So you see where I’m going with this. The networks are breaking some shows into 2 distinct seasons… fall and spring. How does that make you feel? I am fine with it, as long as they fill in winter and summer with some good stuff. On that note American Idol begins on January 12th. And are you ready for complete confusion… and hopefully closure? The premiere date for the final season of Lost has been announced… set your DVR for Tuesday, February 2nd at 8PM. And finally, Jack is back on January 17th. So I’m good with Glee being put off for a bit. In fact, maybe they should put it off until summer because lord knows summers are just TV-retarded. However, Friday Night Lights will return to us NBC-watching, non-Direct-TV-having viewers this summer.  Oh happy day.

Tune of the Week

It is Christmas after all, so my pick this week is “River” by Robert Downey Jr. Yep, you heard me correctly. RDJ performed this Joni Mitchell classic while guest starring on Ally McBeal back in the day and it quickly became a holiday favorite for me (next to “Christmas Wrapping” by The Waitresses, naturally).

What to Watch, Week of 12/7

Gossip Girl — While Sarina Van Der Woodson (Blake Lively) killed it on SNL, her fate lingers on GG.

Glee — The sectionals are this week! And Finn finds out he ain’t Quinn’s baby-daddy. And it goes down. And you need to get your fix now before the 4 month drought.

Happy shopping!

  1. RDJ performing “River” was by far one of my top 5 moments on Ally McBeal. I fully found the bootleg on Napster back in the day (before Lars went all douche bag and made it a paid service) and STILL have it in my holiday rotation. Best version I’ve ever heard. Dude can sing AND play piano. Love him.
