Boy floats away in balloon and he isn’t there when it lands

I don’t know why the Heene family had a balloon large enough to float people high up in the air tied to their house. I guess there are people who actually own hot air balloons. Who knew? I always just assumed you went to big fields and rented a ride when proposing to a girlfriend or something. But when a kid possibly floats away, maybe it’s time to reevaluate a balloon’s usefulness around the house!

A sibling says he saw 6-year-old Falcon climb into the basket of the balloon before it took off from their home in Colorado. There was a chase of sorts while tracking the balloon in the air but when it finally landed, on its own, the door was open and there was no boy! Larimer County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Eloise Campanella said “At this point, we are thinking that he did not fall out of the balloon and is somewhere on the ground. The basket itself was not breached. It does not look like he fell out of it, but again, this is all conjecture.” I sure hope she is right.

So let’s assume little Falcon is hiding, scared as hell that he is in big trouble for letting the balloon go. It is at this moment that any parent would say, “I just want to make sure he is safe.” I cannot imagine the fear his parents are facing right now. This could turn out to be a completely heartbreaking story. I hope that’s not the case… and not just because I don’t want the government wasting time creating a law stating individuals with hot air balloons must have a six-foot fence, with a locked gate, around their balloons.

On the other hand, if it turns out he is fine, I wonder what kind of punishment is good for this sort of thing. Surely little Falcon understands that letting his parents balloon fly away wasn’t the best way to spend the afternoon.

Here’s hoping he turns up soon.
