Lauren likes TV: Mr. and Mrs. Halpert

The Office (Thursday, 9PM, ABC) — My husband told me to get a life last night after I yelled at him for interrupting the finale scene of The Office wedding (he has a knack for doing that… flashback to Grey’s Anatomy season 2 finale, when Izzie killed Denny, Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars” was playing and all he could say over and over again was, “She quit? Wait, she quit? Honey, did she quit?” I almost left him on the spot). And he deserved to be yelled at again. We all anticipated Jim and Pam’s wedding, and quite frankly my expectations were low, but the hour-long extravaganza was one of the best episodes written in a long time. To watch the events unfold leading up to the ceremony was brilliant… we’ve seen enough wedding reception mishaps. Here were the highlights for me, and every character contributed:

1) Erin and Kelly listening to their headphones, dancing in the backseat of Andy’s car. Does everyone agree that Erin was a great addition to the cast? I also loved her out-of-office message…

2) Andy reserving the Honeymoon Suite the night before the wedding. Ew, but LOL?

3) Dwight sitting at the kids table… “That’s right it is ew, it’s very ew.”

4) Oscar totally offended by the thought of Kevin being perceived as his boyfriend.

5) Jim’s adorable speech. Who doesn’t love Jim Halpert?

6) Michael promising Memaw that Jim and Pam planned to name their child after her. Silvio…

7) Andy’s scream when he did his “banana split”

8) Dwight “knocking boots”

9) Jim kicking the soccer ball with a kid just before his wedding ceremony. Who doesn’t love Jim Halpert?

10) Kevin walking into the church with not only a hair piece, but tissue boxes as shoes… my favorite of all.

There’s nothing I hate more than viral You Tube videos of people making asses of themselves to become fake-famous. Especially wedding versions. The peeps behind The Office only helped their cause and included their retarded antics in probably their biggest episode of the season. Not a highlight for me, but when Jim and Pam ran off and got married by themselves at Niagra Falls… a true highlight. And now introducing for the first time as a married couple… Mr. and Mrs. Jim and Pam Halpert… yay!

Others Noteworthy

Glee — Those mashups were amazing… the boys ruled and the girls drooled. But is anyone having a hard time watching Finn (Cory Monteith)? I love the kid, but I think he was miscast. He’s too big and awkward and I cringe when he dances. Someone convince me otherwise.

Cougar Town — “You can’t use the same person for both things! One’s a gardener the other’s an artist!” The whole scene, classic.

Modern Family and Cougar Town were picked up for full seasons! As was The Middle and The Good Wife.

Lowlights

Southland was cancelled. Sorry Tara!

What to Watch, Week of 10/12

30 Rock —  One of my TV biffers, Liz Lemon is back!  Yesssssss…. and I’m finally caught up, watching live with all of you!

No column next week… I am heading to Mexico on Sunday to celebrate Andy and Shilo’s upcoming nuptials, and my very first wedding anniversary. Yep, I kept him around, despite all of the interruptions. Love ya, Bay!

  1. Ok, I’m with you. So did not expect a lot from this episode but ended up that I LOVED LOVED LOVED it … so much so that I already watched it 2xs! And, I am in semi-agreement with you about annoying YouTube videos and superstars (don’t get me wrong, I watch them and even forward them on occasion :) but this could not have fit more perfectly into ‘predicting what Michael Scott would do at your wedding’ file. They seriously nailed it.

  2. I haven’t seen The Office since season 2, since the surprise has been ruined for me already, Jim and Pam got together? They got married? haha I think I will skip on a few seasons and watch this episode everyone is talking about.

I’m happy you got me into Cougar Town, I think it’s one of the best new series! It’s soo funny! I gave Modern family a chance last week, it was funny but a bit slow for me. I will watch it here and there but I won’t freak out if I missed a few episodes.
