Fred's dreams

Art

I dream Gail and I are on our last night in Vegas but, unfortunately, we have to spend it at an art conference. I fulfill my obligation by commenting on the giant bird suit of a friend of mine, but Gail feels we have to spend the rest of the night seeing and being seen. We are in a giant art cafeteria and there is no place to sit down. I am depressed that we have to leave and this is how we spend our last night.

I dream my father wants to go to an art museum. When we get to the admission booth, I see that the admission is a free will donation. My father decides that he wants to pay for both of us; 25 cents each. I am embarrassed, but the admission people are nice about it. We go in and I am looking at the first part of the exhibit. My father rushes through the whole thing and wants to leave right away. My father is walking way ahead. He has forgotten that I am with him.

I dream I am taking a break from my job at the mall learning center. I am in an alley and an artist who makes giant action paintings challenges me to paint one right now, impulsively. I agree, but I’m frightened because the canvas is huge and covers the length and width of the alley. Two students lie down on the canvas and begin making out.

“Fred’s Dreams” is published every Wednesday.
