Healthcare: can I have a prescription for exhaustion?
In one of the uncountable number of healthcare articles to come out over the last three months it seems President Obama is going to try and “reset” the debate. Apparently the 44th President has not heard of the laws of physics: an object at rest wants to stay at rest. As much as I’d like to see any piece of legislation on this topic make it out of the crib, I think the reset tactic is flawed.
Congress is a herd of cats. Not normal cats because there are no normal politicians. Congress is more like my friends’ cat Balls. Balls was found on their porch in West Philly. They captured him while he was staring off into space so intently that he failed to notice two drunk college students stumble up behind him and shove him into a box. Five years later Balls is healthy and happily lives with them. However, Balls isn’t a better, more intelligent cat. He stares into space, fails to notice people or furniture, and occasionally freaks out for no reason. This is how congress votes. I figured it out in high school and it’s still correct.
Congress can’t see gorillas in the room. They’re not ignoring them. They just don’t understand that the large fur-covered thing moving around isn’t a chair. They don’t move at a normal rational rate, but instead rush on some topics and lay about on others. Congress is Balls.
But President Obama, to complete the metaphor, is drunk and trying to capture Balls-Congress. Even if he grabs them and shoves them in a box and the vet gives them a clean bill of health and Obama takes Balls-Congress home, they’re never going to be a real house cat. You can clap in Balls’ face and he’ll sit there. You can accidentally shove him off the arm of a chair and he’ll sit there.
What Obama needs is to build up some momentum. Take down a few small victories in other areas. Then take a running start at Balls-Congress on the healthcare issue. My bet is they’ll freak out and run for it. Of course with Balls there is always the chance he won’t notice.

Let’s face it, the president has failed miserably at any attempt to lead. He is a great campaigner, community organizer, and gifted speaker but has no ability to lead.
Shucks now that I think of it even his community organization skills are starting to fail…
This is the sanest assessment of the Congress I’ve ever read.
Given that the country is so deeply in debt, it is beyond rediculous that a new spending program is even being considered.
Why not lower the cost of medicine without costing the taxpayer or the government a dime?
1. legislate that big Pharma cannot sell drugs in this country for any more than it sells them for say in Canada, Europe etc.
2. legislate meaningful tort reform.
Both groups will scream that this won’t lower costs. You are dealing with 2 cash cows here… Pharma for Republicans, Trial Lawyers for Democrats.
If you bring this up at aTown Hall meeting and the Republican or Democrat waffels on the issue, you know who they are working for and just wave goodby.
Is this such a radical issue? NO, If you look at countries who already have government health care, they have already incorporated these elements into the system as a necessary part to manage their budgets. Since we can’t really afford to pay for any form of government health care plans now, why not start by reducing the cost of medicine in the system we already have? We might find that we really don’t have to change much to make health care affordable in the US.
I supported Obama in 2008, but the last thing I want to hear is another speech filled with spin and bs. This man seems to be clueless. The taxpayers can see right through this, and it’s really scarey that he wanted to rush and pass what? something, he could manipulate to be what he wanted after it passed.
I don’t trust Obama anymore, and it’s his actions that have earned him my mistrust. I’m looking forward to 2012 to cast a different vote!!
Why is everyone always so completely upset when politicians let us down? Obama may have been as hyped as Jesus Christ himself but only the crazy people thought he would actually fix anything. The system is tragically flawed in almost every way possible, this is what we get whoever gets elected.
