Lauren likes TV: Summer schedge, 2009

Looks like summer’s schedule will be the norm… reality-heavy (some of the best reality shows invented) with some scripted shows sprinkled in:

Monday

The Bachelorette — The season has been disappointing so far. I loved Jillian when she was chasing after Jason last season, but now I find her a bit annoying. The same thing happened when Deanna was the bachelorette, so I’m not surprised. She seems like a good girl, so I hope she ends up happy… and let’s hope it’s not with that psychopath, David. I can’t wait to watch her diss him tonight. I wonder who has the girlfriend? My money is on Michael, the likely unemployed break-dancer from Queens. You’re on the wrong show dude… Nigel Lythgoe is looking for you.

Raising The Bar (Monday, 10PM, TNT)I didn’t watch this last season, but I was looking for a drama to add to my summer line-up and Zack Morris (Mark Paul Gosselaar) is in this so I gave it a shot and watched some past episodes. I liked it. It’s got a cute cast with interesting plot lines. I’m not into lawyer shows, but this is on the lighter side so if you need a little something to help cure the summer TV blues, this is a goodie to add. The season premiere is tonight.

Weeds (Monday, 10PM, Showtime)I haven’t ordered Showtime yet, so I’m not sure when I’ll be watching along with the rest of you. I find it difficult to pay any more for cable than I already do, and I’m not sure Weeds is going to be the show to get me to sign on again. This show was once amazing. A pot-dealing widow just trying to make ends meet to support her family. But now Nancy Botwin is a hardcore drug lord who’s kicked her herbal business and has headed south of the border to get involved in professional narcotics while putting herself and her family in danger. And she’s preggers with Esteban’s baby, the kingpin of Mexico (eye-roll). The only reason why I didn’t ditch it last year was because Kevin Nealon, Elizabeth Perkins and Justin Kirk are still hysterical. I’ve heard Jennifer Jason Leigh has joined the cast this year as Nancy’s sister and is supposed to be a great addition. Lets hope so. I’m sure I’ll cave, but the $10.00 a month is going to be a hard pill to swallow if Nancy and her posse disappoint. The season premiere is tonight.

Tuesday — Empty, until Big Brother’s full schedule is announced

Wednesday

So You Think You Can Dance — The top 20 were chosen last week and I was a bit surprised by the selection. Shows like SYTYCD and American Idol usually focus in on a few interesting contestants and some, if not most, usually make it to the top 20. This season, they cut practically all of them which is not a bad thing. If they didn’t deserve it, they shouldn’t be there. I barely recognized many of the top 20 but it seems as if they’re all on even ground as far as exposure… maybe a few have the upper hand. In my opinion both Kasprzak brothers should have gone through rather than Tony Bellissimo, but as the two brothers were left as the last two boys awaiting an answer with only one spot left… a predictably “dramatic” decision had to be made and the judges chose Evan. Anyway, I’m looking forward to watching them dance. I’m even more excited to watch our favorite choreographers get back in there: Tabitha and Napolean, Tice Diorio and the queen bitch herself, Mia Michaels. Let’s hope Wade Robson makes an appearance as well. What I am not looking forward to are Mary’s hot tamale train praises.

Thursday

So You Think You Can Dance (Results) — Some of the best choreography is displayed on this night, so don’t miss it and google the results.

Big Brother — Shout out to Karen Lisa for letting me know that Big Brother, the most conniving, entertaining reality show to grace us, is premiering in July. I’ve read that there are 12 contestants, rather than 10 this season. I can’t wait to see what the twist is… it is Big Bro, you always have to expect the unexpected. Let the back-stabbing begin, July 9th!

Friday/Saturday — Go out and do something, it is summer after all

Sunday

Entourage — Vinny Chase and the boys are back on July 12th.

Mad Men — I still have to watch season 2 (c’mon Netflix, what is taking so long?), but season 3 is set for an August premiere.

  1. I feel special! I got a shout out. I can’t wait for Big Brother, that’s when the action starts!

Yeah I concur The Bachelorette is just ok, but I LOVED watching the toe sucker, Tanner P. talking about Jillian’s feet, it was creepy and hillarious (ok I admit I think he’s kinda cute too). So far I think her best fit would be Ed, he is NORMAL! and handsome.

I haven’t really been following the other shows, but I have THE BEST SHOW you NEED to give a chance. Ok are you ready? I can hear it from you already, “God Karen! NO WAY!”, Lauren! Yes WAY! Watch it and then tell me you Hate it, VH1’s NEW YORK GOES TO WORK! This is seriously the funniest show on TV right now, I was sitting by myself LOL literally and crying from laughter. The concept, viewers vote on what job New York will be doing each week. If she completes the job the she earns 10k at the end of each job. So far I’ve seen her be a pig farmer, a ghost buster, and a wildlife animal trainer.

  2. I just tried to post a comment, so if this is repeated I am sorry. I’ll start again. Hi my TV lovin friend. Have you watched the pilot of Royal Pains(USA Thurs.)? I think you will likey! I’m going to put it on Mary’s hot tamale train! As for Weeds I caught the season premiere and I have to say, I am intrigued. As always I will keep reading!
