Lauren likes TV: Grey’s gets it right

Grey’s Anatomy (Thursday, ABC, 9PM) — Let’s be honest. Grey’s Anatomy has sucked for the past 2 years. It’s been boring, whiny, repetitive and the off-screen drama hasn’t helped. However, they did a really good job this week… season 1 good. Though highly predictable, Izzie and Alex got married over the previously planned Mer/Der wedding as they should’ve. Alex’s true emotions finally shine through as he cries his heart out over the thought of losing Izzie and throughout his vows (appropriately bitten off a survived college valedictorian). There were many highlights, but the best part for me was a toss up between: A) when Izzie declared Christina honorable, and chose her as MOH, B) the moment George, Izzie’s former lover (ew) and best friend (tool), stepped in to give her away as she stumbled down the aisle, and C) the final scene, as Alex signifies that Izzie’s freshly shaven head (sad) takes nothing away from her beauty. I’m not much of a crier, but even I was close to shedding real tears a few times throughout the hour. Let’s hope this episode serves as a catalyst for more like it to come, like they used to.

Highlights

Gossip Girl — Eric’s hair… no roots, stylish, and finally acceptable. Oh, and the bitch is back.

The Office — Cafe Disco and the Andy/Kelly dance-off was epic. Respect the lei.

Lowlights

Lost — I’m pretty sure the same three words are spoken at the end of every episode by every person who watches Lost… “Don’t get it”. I was starting to understand, but then Locke saw himself and told Richard what to tell his other self. What? Daniel Faraday is now dead in the 70’s so does that mean he’s also dead 30 years later? If Jack and Sayid complete their mission, will Faraday then be alive 30 years later? I feel dumber every minute I watch this show. Also, was Kate more annoying than usual in this episode?

What to Watch, Week of 5/11

Season Finale season is here (boooooooo!). Below is a list of what’s ending on my schedule this week:

Lost — The finales for this show are usually off the hook. But I have a strong feeling I most definitely will not comprehend this year’s version… 2 hours no less.

Grey’s Anatomy — They should’ve gone out on top last week, but there is a 2-hour finale “event” where Derek attempts to operate on Izzie’s teeny, tiny inoperable brain tumor. We may learn whether Izzie (who could die) and/or George (who let six kids die last week) return next season or not.

Desperate Housewives — I fear for poor little MJ and his cute little beauty mark.

Other finales to watch: Parks and Recreation, The Office, and Prison Break (series)

90210 — Not a season finale, but who doesn’t love a prom and the drama that comes with it?!

Gossip Girl — Also not a finale, also a prom, and in addition, we’ll get a sneak peek of Lily’s life when she was Serena’s age, which is also a pilot (Lily) which may or may not make the CW’s fall line-up. And, No Doubt performs! Spiderwebs, I hope (I kill that in Guitar Hero).

  1. Lauren,
If you haven’t watched or caught up with Breaking Bad from AMC you are missing one of the best shows on Television right now. I will be anxious to hear your reviews

  2. Awesome recap. Grey’s was fantastic and the last scene totally got me. I completely concur with the top three highlights. When George helped her down the isle, I was finished. So good.

Suggestion: Watch “In the Motherhood.” I literally can’t stop laughing the entire show and you definitely don’t need to have kids to appreciate the humor. Watch last weeks episode, funniest by far, and see what you think!
