Are you sure you’re voting for the right person?

On the day before this momentous election I thought I would take a moment to figure out which political party I really belong to… if any. I know who I am going to vote for. I have known for months — because there are a few issues that are very important to me. But just the other day a friend told me about this political site that has a simple Vote Match Quiz which, based on your responses, spits out the name of the candidate you most agree with. So, I took the quiz.

Well, shit, it spit out the wrong candidate. Not only did it tell me my choice goes against my true political leanings, it indicated that I am not even registered with the correct party. What the hell? I have been doing everything right. I’ve taken this election more seriously than any election I’ve voted in the past. I’ve paid attention. I’ve paid close attention. I’ve tried to recognize false reports in reported truths. I even watched every debate, intently, unlike others.

I honestly feel connected with my choice for President. Is it bad if I go with my gut on this one?

  1. If watching the race to this point has shown me anything at all, it is that this election is all about emotion over logic, so why not go with the flow?

  2. Who really runs this “Vote Match Quiz” website? There are so many dirty tricks out there you have to be very careful. I certainly would not trust it to change my vote!

  3. I tried the site a couple of times, changing my answers based on the positions of certain candidates. I got Clinton and Obama when I answered with their (and their party’s) positions, and McCain when I answered with his (and his party’s) positions. It’s obviously a simplistic quiz with limited value. But my unscientific test indicates no shenanigans.

  4. You should by all means do exactly what the calculator tells you to do. Anything else would be unpatriotic.

In all seriousness, I would be very wary of any of those types of things… going with your gut is definitely a risky thing, but at least you can take pride in the fact that you can make these types of decisions on your own.

  5. I dare you to change your vote. When your husband kicks you out of the house, you can crash by us. Also, we’re allowed to curse on here? For real? Sweet.

  6. I took the quiz. “Simplistic” is right, but out of the two candidates available, I still get Obama several notches above McCain.

  7. Thanks for your thoughts. I did limited research on the site (went to the “about us” section) and they seem to have a bipartisan informational/educational agenda… but really – who knows! I think I will vote with my gut… but remain confused as to where I truly fall politically and will need to evaluate at some point after Tuesday.

  8. It really comes down to one thing Amy… do you want a roof over your head tomorrow night?

    Sleep on that.
