Food

I dream I stop at Hardee’s for lunch and the people behind the counter are aggressively trying to get rid of leftover breakfast items. They say, “We have to throw it out anyway.” So I say, “Ok, give me an egg sandwich.” Then when they tell me the price of my lunch, I say “Wait a minute-did you charge me for the egg sandwich?” They say, “Of course. We’re a restaurant. We charge for food here.” So I say, “You were hustling it on me. Take it off, please.” They are disgruntled and they take a long time to calculate my refund. When they give it to me it is forty dollars too much. I say, “You know, folks, I don’t want to take advantage of this, but you gave me way too much money.” They take it back, but seem angry at me for making them look bad in front of the manager. As I leave, workers from the Hardee’s corporation give me a hard time, so I take on my secret agent persona and transport from office to office using a TV remote control.

I dream I am with Gail and Bob M. at a resort area at which Donald Trump has reconstructed the Coney Island Wonderwheel. It is sleek and big and beautiful, but no one rides it. There is a “one price fits all” restaurant that costs $30 but only serves hot dogs. I am curious to taste a $30 hot dog, so we pay it. Furthermore, you have to pay to go to the bathroom. It costs 39 cents.

I dream I am at my elementary or high school, but much bigger and fancier. It is lunch time, and I am not sure where to go or what to do. I find a floor that seems to be like a cafeteria/food court, with many specialized stands each of which only has an item or two. I’d have to wait in a number of different lines, and I decide that’s not for me. I go instead to the teachers’ lunch room, but it is a city, with hundreds of different food stands spread over a number of blocks. You must walk only on the black parts of the floor and the floor is moving. It’s a little like Eliza crossing the ice. I am concerned that my time will run out, and by the time I find some lox to eat I don’t know where I am anymore.
