Sarah Palin: One more reason to not watch Fox News
She’s stopped playing Peeping Tom with Russia, she’s sold millions of dollars worth of books, she has electrified a large segment of the population, but the GOP’s official cheerleader has decided it’s time to step her game up.
From the New York Times:
Former Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska has signed on as a contributor to the Fox News Channel.
…
Ms. Palin will not have her own regular program, one person with knowledge of the deal said, though she will host a series that will run on the network from time to time. This person would not elaborate, but the network does have a precedent for such a series. Oliver L. North is the host of an occasionally running documentary series on the military called “War Stories.”
You know the first thought that ran through my head when I read the headlines?
“I wonder which one of the talking heads on their Prime Time line up is going to get the cut?”
Honestly, as much as I dislike Palin, I’d much rather see her on TV than I would O’Reilly. There’s certainly a lot less of her to see than Boozie McBoozehound at 5PM ET…
And I think it would do the average Republican voter a lot of good to see her in unscripted moments, to hear her actually talk about her ideas on policy, foreign relations, social issues, etc. They might wake up and realize that, while she makes a good cheerleader, while she looks good in a pair of running shorts sporting an assault rifle, she’s hardly the sort of person you want to entrust with the nuclear football.
But alas, upon reading the story, I realized that we’re being denied even that little blessing. She’s only going to appear periodically, and I assume she is only going to be allowed to discuss material her handlers pre-approve for her. This reeks of a campaign gimmick, trying to keep her face out there until 2012, trying to give her an air of “informed” and something of an “insider”.
Man, I dread her next run at power. That voice sends chills down my spine every time I hear it, and I can envision a scenario where she might actually win…
Ok. I’m done. I’ve got to go take some Pepto Bismal.

The interesting thing will be her contract. I don’t know if she’s ever had a boss before, somebody whose rules and schedule she has to respect. Considering how many staffers she’s thrown under the bus this year, just imagine being the producer, writer, editor or crew on her show. She has a pattern of quitting jobs when they get too hard, of accepting and then de-accepting speech invitations, of going off to do her own thing no matter what the rules are, of dismissing instructions to look in camera three.
In short, she tends to go rogue. That’s her thing.
So what happens when Palin goes rogue on Fox, the very network that defends her when she goes rogue on somebody else? Thing will end up in court, I’m sure of it.

Fox: Palin’s Appearances to be Simulcast in English Millions to Understand Governor for First Time
NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report) – One day after announcing that she would be a commentator on the Fox News Channel, the network revealed that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s appearances would be simulcast in English.
“We are delighted that Gov. Palin will, for the first time, be understandable to the English-speaking audience,” said Fox News chief Roger Ailes. “This should create a whole new fan base for her.”
Gov. Palin praised the decision, adding, “I know many
Americans will be interested in understanding what I have to say and I will also too.”
In a related story, Fox said it had “no interest” in hiring funnyman Conan O’Brien, explaining, “Sarah Palin takes care of our comedy needs.”

Will they change their slogan to “Fair and Balanced Campaign for the Republican Presidential Nomination”?
This clip with Glenn Beck is telling. Beck may be a carnival barker and a huckster supreme, but he looks like a fierce intellectual when throwing jagged softballs at his new pal Palin:
