Sarah Palin: One more reason to not watch Fox News

She’s stopped playing Peeping Tom with Russia, she’s sold millions of dollars worth of books, she has electrified a large segment of the population, but the GOP’s official cheerleader has decided it’s time to step her game up.

From the New York Times: [1]

Former Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska has signed on as a contributor to the Fox News Channel.

Ms. Palin will not have her own regular program, one person with knowledge of the deal said, though she will host a series that will run on the network from time to time. This person would not elaborate, but the network does have a precedent for such a series. Oliver L. North is the host of an occasionally running documentary series on the military called “War Stories.”

You know the first thought that ran through my head when I read the headlines?

“I wonder which one of the talking heads on their Prime Time line up is going to get the cut?”

Honestly, as much as I dislike Palin, I’d much rather see her on TV than I would O’Reilly.  There’s certainly a lot less of her to see than Boozie McBoozehound at 5PM ET…

And I think it would do the average Republican voter a lot of good to see her in unscripted moments, to hear her actually talk about her ideas on policy, foreign relations, social issues, etc.  They might wake up and realize that, while she makes a good cheerleader, while she looks good in a pair of running shorts sporting an assault rifle, she’s hardly the sort of person you want to entrust with the nuclear football.

But alas, upon reading the story, I realized that we’re being denied even that little blessing.  She’s only going to appear periodically, and I assume she is only going to be allowed to discuss material her handlers pre-approve for her.  This reeks of a campaign gimmick, trying to keep her face out there until 2012, trying to give her an air of “informed” and something of an “insider”.

Man, I dread her next run at power.  That voice sends chills down my spine every time I hear it, and I can envision a scenario where she might actually win…

Ok.  I’m done.  I’ve got to go take some Pepto Bismal.
