Fred's dreams

Home Depot

March 10, 2009
I dream I must go to Home Depot to purchase a planter for my wife, Gail. Gail is delighted with the planter, and insists that we bring it when we go to a spook house at a seashore amusement pier. I don’t want to be scared, but Gail insists that we go. Somehow, I wind up at the comedy show of my friend, Dave, who is performing with my sister-in-law, Helaine. Their act seems to be falling flat. Afterwards, when Dave asks me how it went, I explain that a) it’s not much of an act and b) he should have teamed up with me.

I dream Stephen King comes over for an evening at my house. King shows up with several cans marked “beer,” and he chain drinks them. Then he, Gail, Lorri, and I get in the car and head for a Home Depot. I admit that even though I don’t know anything about home repairs, I enjoy looking at the hammers. King says he is interested in hammers as well. We wonder if King will be recognized.

I dream I am at Home Depot where, amidst the screwdrivers, I find a tabloid publication written by my friend, Bob. The publication is all about Bob’s accomplishments as well as ads for his friends’ performances. I burn with jealousy and when Bob shows up I give him sarcasm and invective. He tells me it’s a simple matter to publish such a newsletter and I ought to do one myself. As I look for back issues, I discover that Bob publishes a line of workbooks for schoolchildren as well.

“Fred’s Dreams” appears every Wednesday.

  1. This was fun. Clearly, you and I go to different parts of Home Depot. I like to stare at the bathroom fixtures, but, alas, I never have dreams about them, that I know of. Have I read the third one, the Bob one, before?

  2. Dang! Eva, you’re right, the Bob one was an unintentional repeat. Here is another Home Depot dream as a replacement:

I dream I am with my father in a magic shop that is about the size of a Home Depot. In the middle of the room is a performance area in which my Uncle Phil is doing the linking ring trick. As much as I like my Uncle Phil, I am distracted by an aisle filled with salt shakers and gimmicks. I search, but I can’t find exactly what I am looking for.

  3. Thanks for the wonderful new dream. I think I see a connection to the few dreams I remember. I used to have dreams about the handbag section of Macy’s Herald Square. That was the first part of the store we would always go to as we came in from the subway. It was a portal.
