Eva Thury

Eva Thury teaches in the Department of English and Philosophy at Drexel University in Philadelphia. She once described herself on PBS rather grandiosely as having “a black belt in mythology.” Her basis for this is that she is the co-author of Introduction to Mythology Contemporary Approaches to Classical and World Myths, 2nd ed. (Oxford 2009) with Margaret K. Devinney. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. Though trained as a classicist, she sees herself as a bit of a popular culture whore, pursuing interests in everything from vampires to Sandy Skoglund’s radioactive cats.
Graduating from uncials, Eva began her writing career for the Drexel Online Journal in 2001 with the column “with a small ‘c’” — it was very hard to punctuate and talked about things she thought were cultural. Eva has been milking her connection with computers since punch cards were made of stone. She is a devotee of Virginia Heffernan’s work in the New York Times Sunday Magazine but intends to write a much more superficial and trashy column than that for When Falls the Coliseum. “Stone Age Memes” is published on Thursdays.
