Best Picture preview: The search for 10
This year we will have 10 Best Picture nominations. 10. Off the top of my head, here are the films I can think of deserving them:
–The Hurt Locker
–Up (primarily for the montage; anyone who’s seen the movie knows what I’m talking about)
That is all.
This isn’t to say there aren’t other movies worthy of recognition or there won’t still be a few still to come or that the Oscars won’t be inspired by the new freedom to look outside our shores and salute worthy foreign efforts.
All those things, however, will get us to seven tops. Still three to go.
Since the Oscars reportedly decided to expand the field to bring in more popular movies to boost ratings, we can expect these nominations to draw from the year’s biggest smashes like:
–Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
–X-Men Origins: Wolverine
–Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
–G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
–Paul Blart: Mall Cop
-Several other titles that feature colons
With so many films splitting the vote, a true upset for Best Picture won’t be impossible, meaning we can very well look forward to Michael Bay triumphantly sauntering up to the podium and the Academy members being left to contemplate what they’ve wrought.
Also, they should let Letterman host again.
__ of the Moment appears each Wednesday.

Yes, the Hurt Locker: cracking movie. One of the best “war” movies, if you can even call it that. Great work, all around, especially the lead guy. Talking to people, few have even heard of it.
SEE this movie!
