Lauren likes TV: Get up on this!
Glee (Wednesday, FOX, 9PM) — Since the pilot in the spring, Glee has been on my mind. This was the show I couldn’t wait for this fall and it was certainly worth the wait. We were left with the New Directions version of ‘Don’t Stop Believin” in our heads all summer and I was ready for a change. During a commercial break Rosanna Scotto (FOX 5 NY news anchor) mentioned an interview with Salt-N-Pepa following that nights episode of Glee. I immediately thought, holy shit this is the ‘Push It’ episode and I was right. The New Directions surprise version of the 1987 jam left the students and all of us at home dancing in our seats, and the faculty of McKinley High with the their jaws on floor. Leading the disapproval was cheer dictator Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch), the bullish, and hilariously snide head coach of the Cheerios who’s out to get rid of the glee club. I LOL’d many times during the episode and love the music but I find the underlying darkness the most interesting and unique part of this show. When Coach Ken Tanaka confronts OCD Emma about her crush on married Will (“I’d be willing to put up with your crazy”) it was funny, but awkwardly sad. The show’s brilliant like that. Now the pamphlets in the guidance counselor office (My mom’s Bipolar and won’t stop yelling), those were just plain funny. I like this show a lot and it looks like the rest of the country is interested too… it scored 7.3 million viewers last week. It’s only downfall was the celibacy club. What were those balloons about? They made me feel weird.
Somewhere In The Middle
90210 — Well, it was good to see the Beverly Hills Beach Club again. As for the show, not so much. That being said, I think I have to watch Annie’s life completely fall apart. Naomi is about to ruin her (sound familiar, Jame?). I’m totally looking forward to that. One upgrade… Silver’s hair. On the other hand, Dixon’s hair. Major downgrade.
Melrose Place — Hmmm, what to make of this. I didn’t hate it, and I didn’t love it. I also didn’t understand it. Is Sydney really dead? How can she be dead? Already? Again? What I do know is that Ashley Simpson couldn’t act her way out of a studio apartment in the Melrose complex. Awful. I’m not gonna hold this episode against the show… but next week counts.
Lowlights
Ellen DeGeneres is the new judge on American Idol. I’m a fan of Ellen, but I do not understand this at all. But I am loving the Paula Abdul VH1 Diva commercial.
Kanye West is Heartless… and immature and idiotic. At last night’s VMA’s, the outspoken rapper jumped on stage and interrupted Best Female Video winner, Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech, ranting about Beyonce’s video (also nominated in the category). Congrats to Taylor Swift and big ups to Beyonce for inviting Taylor out on stage to re-accept her award when she won the Moon Man for Video of the Year.
What to Watch, Week of 9/14
More shows begin!
Monday
Gossip Girl — Does anyone remember what’s going on?
One Tree Hill — Not sure how this season is gonna turn out without beloved Lucas and Peyton. Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton are not returning this season.
Thursday
The Office — Pam and Jim are preggers out of wedlock! I can’t imagine that will be for long. Enough of them though, I’ve missed Kevin.
Community — Joel McHale on must-see-tv? Nuff said. You can watch a short preview on iTunes or read a review here.
VH1 Divas — Adele, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson… should I go on?

So much to comment on this fab blog laur!
1) thanks for the call-out!
2) Glee – LOVE< LOVE LOVE and when the teacher sang (was that really him) i developed my first new crush of the fall 2009 tv season. I think the celibacy club was weird too since hello – this is 2009! but i think they are using it for the dude’s storyline with his weird cheerleader girlfriend that has crosses over her bed and does not even let him touch bubbies! I am also loving hating the teachers wife! what a head case!
3) 90210 – the beach club ain’t the same without brandon moving chairs around! poor annie! i think it is messed up of silver to not hang out with her. Annie was very supportive of her during her whole bi-polar thing and she JUST made up with Naomi this year. Not cool at all. Naomi is sooo going to ger her kharma when sh-t hits the fan.
4) melrose sucked. the whole thing. worst acting, worst couples will give one more episode but then i am out!
5) Gossip Girls – totally remember – i can summarize to you in a side e-mail laur
6) One tree hill – i was sort of over peyton and lucas so willing to give this show a chance. I love brooke (favorite name!) and Haylie although (dont yell at me laur) i think their son jamie is VERY annoying.
7) Taylor Swift – So cute on stage and felt so bad but she got him when she rocked that subway performance and beyonce looked MORTIFIED but she was total class act bringing her on stage and this will end up working for taylor. I dont know why anyone buys his albums or invites him. (laur – ask me one sogn he sings!)
8) down for all other shows you listed but we have to discuss you adding a couple that it hink would be worthy of your brilliant critique!
Hmmm…Interesting. Glee was really good and when the teacher started dancing, WHAT! It made him hot! I don’t even know why but it did! And the Cheerios joining Glee what! This is going to be an interesting season, who will win the hot boy?
Melrose Place, I can’t believe you didn’t like this episode, I thought it was sooo good! I love that the Jake wannabe is Michael’s kid and to see Michael is still a prick. They have the stereotypical Asian chick who is now a prostitute, The cheesy couple, will they stay together or will Amanda wannabe butt in and steal her man? The best part, the hot chef brother is the killer?? WHAT? Asley, I don’t get it she had 2 lines don’t even know who she’s playing, the innocent girl? I heard the rating were real bad that night and the show might be cancelled, I really hope not I’m really into it.
90210- This was ok didn’t expect much but it wasn’t bad.
One tree hill- I can’t wait, but they should of just ended it last season, it’s not going to be the same without the main characters.
I’m surprised you aren’t watching Vampire Diaries.
Don’t forget finale of Big Brother is this week! I think Kevin has it in the bag if he plays it right. I’m happy if he wins, he’s hillarious!
I love that the comments are blog posts on their own!
I can only comment on what I watch:
Glee- LOVE!
Melros- I actually kind of liked it in that I think it is so bad it is good. Sydney is dead (AGAIN) and the whole season will revolve around it. My prob is that I only have one DVR and Biggest Loser is coming back (yes I am the Biggest Loser) so I think I will have to drop it along with the rest of the shows on the WB
I like Karen am VERY excited about the Big Brother finale- 2 whole hours! I only wish Ronnie would miss his flight to L.A. since he is so annoying! My only hope is that Natalie does not win and I don’t think she will. I really don’t even want her to come in 2nd so hopefully Jordan won’t bring her to the end if she wins the final HOH.
1 quick question – i missed the last 10 seconds of Melrose place. was the guy that ashley simpson was flirting wtih and inviting to coffee the killer?
Well they implied that he knows something since he was burning bloodied clothing but I don’t think they are giving up the killer in episode 1.
