Lauren likes TV: Samantha Who? you ask…
Last Week’s Roundup
Samantha Who? (Thursday, ABC, 8:30PM) — Hooray! Sam and friends were back last week. You nearly always get a laugh (or many) from this comedy about Sam (Christina Applegate) who has amnesia and uses it to change her ways, as she learns she wasn’t such a nice girl in her previous life. While Applegate is the star of the show (and has been nominated for her role as Sam), the real stand-outs are her mother, Regina, and friend, Dena. Regina (Jean Smart, also nominated) is an audacious firecracker who isn’t afraid to tell it like it is. Dena, her fat, funny friend is more than the fat, funny friend cliche and once opined about how glorious children’s menus are because “they always have grilled cheese.” They steal the show each week, with no exception in Thursday’s episode. Regina wanted to break up with Dena’s “faux”-soldier boyfriend for her so she could feel like a teenager again: Watch at www.abc.com. This is an LOFL comedy that should be in your weekly rotation.
Others Noteworthy
One Tree Hill — A dog ate Dan’s heart transplant. What? And they say the CW isn’t a real network….
Lost — Finally, Ben is shot and killed… even if it was the 12 year-old version.
Grey’s Anatomy — Izzie had brain surgery performed on her by the “broken” Dr. Shepherd. I’d hoped that she’d pass away and he’d roll his sardine can off the cliff while still inside. No such luck. However, the pseudo-proposal by Derek to Meredith was very appropriate and kinda sweet.
What to Watch, week of 3/30
Tuesday — My boyz of My Boys (Tuesday, TBS, 10:30PM) are back for their 3rd season. This show doesn’t get the credit it deserves. This close-knit group of friends residing in Chi-town (focused on PJ, the female writer for the Chicago Cubs) are funny, endearing, and hang out in a bar for 20 out of the 22 minutes it’s on air. Though the 10:30pm time slot and network works against them, they are at least worth a series recording on DVR, minimum. Also, there’s Cupid (Thursday, ABC, 10PM), a new show on ABC about Trevor (Bobby Cannavale) who believe he is Cupid and is sent to NY to make love happen for others. It has a decent cast, and besides, season finales are approaching so we’ll need some new shows to take us through the dreadful summer drought. I’ll give it a whirl.
Thursday — ER. I’ve never seen an episode. Not one. Truth. But it is the series finale and after 15 years on the air, I may even tune in for this one.
Friday — Friday Night Lights. The Panthers are going to the State ‘Ship and Saracen may be getting another chance at QB1.
Saturday — The NCAA Final Four. UConn, Villanova, UNC, and Michigan State are the last teams standing. I am in The Izzone. Bring it home to Motown, Spartans!
