I dream I am watching a play with my wife, Gail, and my sister-in-law Helaine. A cute dog is a character in the play, and I notice that the tip of his nose moves in and out somewhat when he talks. I wasn’t aware that dogs’ noses did that, although I was aware that dogs’ penises did that. Later on in the show, the tip of the dog’s nose comes out again, detaches, and then slowly floats towards us like an enchanted bubble. Helaine, who loves dogs, was not aware of this phenomenon. We catch the floating nose on a menu we happen to be holding and marvel at the intricacy of this multi-compartmentalized nose capsule.

I dream my father and I go to audition for a play at a community theater. My father is called in to audition first and he doesn’t know what to do. He is worried, because he is much older than any of the other auditioners, and as he walks down the aisle towards the stage he trips and falls. He has to be helped up and everybody feels uneasy. He gets up onto the stage and says “Everybody stand up!” and everybody stands up. Then my father says “Ok,” and then he falls. Everybody laughs and thinks my dad is the greatest guy in the world. He then reads for the part of a little old lady who wears a bathrobe.

I dream I am playing the narrator in Our Town, and I deconstruct the play during the performance. I turn actors against each other, call intermissions indiscriminately, sing songs, and essentially trash the play. I point out how clever I am, since in the real play the narrator has fake conversations with supposed members of the audience, and here I am having real conversations with real members of the audience.
