Scams

August 23, 2006

I dream I park in the lot of an auto supply store in Bucks County. They have arcane parking rules, but I make sure to follow them. Days later, however, I get a ticket in the mail and I am furious. I go back to the dealership and demand to talk to the parking manager. They are laughing and having a good time because they know they have arcane parking rules and they intend to screw people. Nobody wants to talk to me so I take off all my clothes, even my underpants, and demand to speak to somebody because I have been coming to this auto supply store since I was a little kid. Finally, a woman manager comes out and tells me that I’m only angry because the ticketing system works too well. I vow never to go to this place again, but before I leave I watch two shows: one with giant puppets and another in which a woman pulls items out of a flap of skin beneath her chin.

I dream I am on my way home from an academic meeting and Gail suggests a detour. We wind up on a sandy road near an embankment and there is a woman with a flat tire and a monkey. She is trying to get the monkey to fix her tire. I get out and help the monkey position the jack. Soon, I realize it’s a con game. The monkey is trying to get me to do all the work.

I dream I am cutting high school and Gail and I are in a combination shopping mall and rare animal environment. I get stuck in a New Age shop that sells all sorts of junky “Seth” equipment, such as a little revolving disk in which, if you stare for a long time, Seth appears. There is also a piece of foil that gradually gets hot and you must drop it, supposedly because of the power of Seth. The woman in the shop is combing my hair and it relaxes me, but I want to know if she is charging me for this. She says “maybe,” and I flip out.
