Why isn’t anyone talking about the man

The week’s big argument has been over whether or not the Catholic Church, the Insurance Companies, or the taxpayers should have to pay for a woman to have access to birth control. Let’s ignore the idea that the woman should have some responsibility in making sure she doesn’t get pregnant, and ask another important question:  Why is it that no one is talking about the guy who sleeps with her? Why is the argument about making sure the woman has birth control; is sex now entirely her domain, or does the male half of the couple still have some responsibility?

Why isn’t he expected to provide condoms, or access to the pill if she’s his long term romantic interest? He’s the one getting the reward, right? Why does he require a bailout from some third party? The taxpayer will already take care of any offspring he might produce, legitimate or otherwise, and now we uninterested third parties are expected to shoulder the cost of birth control for him, and it’s touted as being in our best interest??? Hell no! My best interest is served by making this guy buck up and pull his own weight.

I mean, what are the liberals going to demand next for this deadbeat? Is the government going to start subsidizing the cost of dinner and a movie too? Make his employer start paying for flowers on Valentine’s Day for him?  Perhaps the Catholic Church should be required to provide him with an internet dating site account?  No, I know!  We’ll make his parents pay for the cost of his romantic engagements until he’s 26, like they now have to do with his health insurance!

If you ask me (and no one ever does), it’s high time for dads and potential dads to have to reshoulder some of the load here.  Maybe if the father was still held accountable for his actions, we’d see fewer illegitimate children and broken homes?

  1. It seems mysterious sometimes that the youth, those under 30, trend towards policies that load them with debts for benefits they will never receive. Contraceptives/abortions are the payoff, meager as it is in dollars and sense. Chat with the dudes and dudettes and you will learn that while they resent buying insulin for fat grannies (as they should) they are assuaged for $30 a month and the odd $300 when the pills or barriers fail. But that’s just the money, more important is the social ratification of the sexual status quo. The girls want to be “protected” from some of the consequences of their actions. The boys want NO consequences. Free abortions endorse the irresponsibility they already practice.
