Let’s be clear on this

Saying that President Obama doesn’t deserve credit because he didn’t fire the shot that took him out is like saying bin Laden is not responsible for 9/11 because he didn’t fly the planes.

Why do these people not recall that the possibility of a government shutdown last month was a direct result of the President’s refusal to accept the Republican budget that would have completely denied healthcare to some veterans,  raised healthcare premiums for current service members and retirees and included billions in cuts to “non-essential” discretionary military programs, including $2.6 billion in funding provided to care for America’s veterans through the Veterans Administration?

The proposal included eliminating planned major construction that would have stopped the building of new VA medical facilities and the repair and renovation of existing VA hospitals. Further cuts included spending that directly affected the medical care received by veterans, including decreased nurse/patient ratios, fewer opportunities for mental health counseling, longer waits for services and would have further hampered the effort to eliminate the backlog of disability claims and denied new housing vouchers to homeless veterans while continuing to support tax cuts for multi-million dollar corporations that have out-sourced American jobs, tax credits for the obscenely rich and while retaining their own healthy salaries and lifetime benefits.

Veterans should be thanking their lucky stars that their President was willing to risk a government shutdown that may have interrupted their paychecks for a few weeks rather than allow these outrages to take place which would have had consequences for a lifetime.

There is always going to be an element of the population that is inclined to bash President Obama. Whether that concerns his religion, his citizenship, his bringing justice to Bin Laden, or his ability to lead this country—No matter what evidence is presented they are going to find flaws with his birth certificate, deny he is responsible for finding and killing bin Laden, claim that his name alone is proof he is a Muslim (my great-grandfather was named Moses, yet we don’t claim he was prophet), or spew inanities about “sharing the wealth” and socialism because they have a fanatical, fundamental, abiding belief that he should not be president.  And I sincerely doubt its because he’s a Democrat.

I don’t agree with everything the President and fellow Democrats have proposed, nor do I agree with Congress or all Republicans on every issue. Thankfully, one of my freedoms in this country is that I am allowed to think about the issues at stake and the decisions being made on my behalf and freely exercise my right to question–all sides. Both the Democrats and the GOP are guilty of inventing fantastically distorted versions of the facts and spinning them into attractive half-truths for the gullible and of grossly misrepresenting the opposition. Who (other than Sarah Palin) could ever have bought into and actually believed that Obama and the Democrats were proposing medical death panels for our seniors with their Healthcare plan?  Who can actually believe that the Bush-Cheney Administration was not only aware of, but deliberately allowed the attacks of September 11, 2001?

A shit-load of Crazy People! (Well, there are the ignorant as well.)

  1. First off, how about a page break? Monopolizing the front page is not good form even if the material were in any regard worthy. Speaking of ignorant, you obviously know nothing about the current state of the national fisc. Yes, there are cuts to many things no one wants cut. There is a serious reason for that, it is called the national debt. Ever heard of it? There is no evidence of it in this witless rant. This also has consequences that last a lifetime… MORE than a lifetime. Shrill denunciations of any attempt to reign in this disaster are not helpful to say the least. The habits of the foolish that do so are a large part of why we are where we are and you seem to have no clue as to where that is, which is on the verge of a currency collapse. The federal checks for EVERYTHING will bounce. Sound fun? As for Obama being unjustly maligned, too bad, it goes with the job. It is as much the right of the person posting that fb note as it is yours to object. A shit-load of Crazy People! What a contentless burp. You embarrass yourself.

  2. @Ken: Your attack is fallacious and unwarranted; it only serves to emphasize my observations which had nothing to do with my position on the national debt.

@WFTC: I apologize for the temporary monopoly of the front page. I have been properly crucified!

  3. Wow, Ken. You may disagree with Jody, sure. You have every right to. But your comment is pretty wildly disrespectful, from my perspective. Ease up, buddy.

  4. Ken, your command of vitriol is truly impressive. Perhaps you can add that skill to your bloated bio. Bad form indeed.

  5. No apology necessary for the lack of a “read more” that keeps posts from taking up too much of the home page — other contributors sometimes forget to insert the code and then I fix it or remind them. Not a big deal.

  6. Yes the national debt has an impact but it is so political no one can wrap their hands around it. It’s funny that before GW took the reins there was a surplus. Now we are trying to correct all of the over-spending in less time than it took to accumulate it.

The President is the Commander In Chief. He ordered the strike. Maybe he should have been flown in there after the fatal shot with a banner that read “Mission Accomplished”. Gee….

  7. Oh – And a direct quote from the right wingers – “If you have a spending problem you don’t fix it with more revenue”. As my jaw drops I have to wonder who balances this jerks checkbook. What’s wrong with cutting spending AND increasing revenue? The big spenders don’t want to pay their fair share. Deal with it…..

  8. You are very witty mom. lol

  9. Man, Ken — that was pretty brutal. Not cool. Almost as uncool as the Facebook posters being so terrified that Obama might actually do something good as to twist his decisive leadership call, in this instance, into a Facebook post that implies that he is trying, actively, to steal the glory from the SEALs who actually carried out the mission.

Jody — I’m with you. I’m not a complete Obama enthusiast, but credit where credit is due. The FB post in question is an agenda tool; I find it embarrassing.

  10. Thank you Brant.

However, I think the “witless” comment is referencing my intelligence–not my humor. Regardless, I am so happy to see you looking at something other than porn on the internet! You’re a good son.

  11. Wow Jody! Way to piss off the lunatic fringe!

Well, I followed up on Mr. Watson”s search link he graciously provided in his bio “megapatomus” and you seem to have pissed him off due to the fact that he one of those carazy people!

  12. Hey Miss Jody,
I am so proud of you….I love reading your posts…Keep up the good work!!!

  13. Dude, Ken.
    You’re bein’ a dick.
