The November 2010 United States national election event recap

I think it would be beneficial to get this out of the way in the first sentence, and let me just say: Wow.

You know what? I’ll make that it’s own paragraph.  I think it deserves it.

That one too.  I digress.

This year’s big election night in the United States of America was different than all that had come before it.  No more business as usual and no more easy answers to the hardest questions.

But, it was also the same night that Glee was on, so for everyone out there with lives, here’s a friendly recap of everything you missed, just so when you go to a dinner party this weekend, you can have strong, important, and well informed opinions.  You’re welcome.

The biggest change this year turned out to be no change at all.  Barack Obama is still the President.  A startling disappointment of continued appointment for many reasons.  How are we supposed to stimulate the economy when we are keeping the same President in office year after year after year?  Thousands of posters of U.S. Presidents will go un-updated.  Paper, ink, and encyclopedia manufacturers have nothing to add.  There will be no new President on the next money. Shame on you, American People.

Now, a lot of focus has been put on the big “Prop” 19 vote in California.  What was it about?  I do not know.  I don’t live in California.  The only thing I can guess — and correct me if I’m wrong — is that it had something to do with sunglasses.  Have you ever been to California?  Everyone there, and I mean everyone, is wearing sunglasses.  Now, I show up there, and first thing off the airplane,  I feel like a regular Joe Schmoe in a town full of Joseph Schmosephs.  What kind of town is this? I thought.  A cool one.  That’s what kind of town.

So unfortunately for me, I didn’t pack sunglasses.  And even more unfortunate for me, I didn’t bring any money.

Life has a funny way of working itself out though, and thanks to this year’s election, Proposition 19 on the California ballot was struck down.  The people have spoken.

I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface with all of this, though.  To do a quick recap, there is a Senate, the Republicans won a house (congrats), and there are no more Muslims in Oklahoma (can not confirm this, overheard CNN while making a bagel this morning).

So that’s the state of our great nation this week.  The future is looking brighter by the minute (especially in California, where they are newly bare-eyed).  I couldn’t be happier at how this year’s election went, and I could not be looking forward to 2011 any more.  It has been my pleasure to bring you this recap.  Good ______*.
