President Obama sets bad example for the children, eats a cheeseburger

President Obama, a role model to our children (I like to think of him as our “Role Model-in-Chief”) set a terrible example to our obesity-plagued children by having a cheeseburger with some guy from Russia.

The buzz around the White House centered much more on the presidents’ unexpected jaunt for cheeseburgers to Ray’s Hell Burger in Virginia — Medvedev took jalapenos — and less about the many substantive matters they discussed.

Did the president check this out with his wife first? Remember, she is the one who created the “Let’s Move” campaign, to encourage fat kids to, well, move.

And also, to not eat so many cheeseburgers.

A photo from the event, posted on the Russian guy’s twitter feed (!), is particularly incriminating:

Look carefully at that image. It depicts a president, a role model-in-chief, who is saying through his actions that it is okay for children to eat cheeseburgers. This is a president who says, “Mm. Delicious cheeseburgers. Eat cheeseburgers, kids, and maybe you, too, can grow up to be president.”

Of course, in fairness to the president, he does get a lot of exercise. He spends a lot of time golfing.

Obama has played at least seven times since the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig exploded on April 20, according to a compilation of media reports. He has reportedly golfed a total of 39 times since his inauguration, though some rounds came during vacations.

So, okay, I guess if you get in as much exercise as the president, it’s okay to indulge in a cheeseburger every now and then.

Suddenly I feel less indignant about his eating a cheeseburger.

Ricky Sprague occasionally writes and/or draws things. He sometimes animates things. He has a Twitter account and he has a blog. He scripted this graphic novel about Kolchak The Night Stalker. He is really, really good at putting links in bios.

  1. Perhaps this is a bit of passive aggressiveness against his wife?

At least, he didn’t eat one of those Double Downs.

  2. And the trip to the burger joint was “unexpected!” I did not see that coming.

  3. @Colin: I think the Obamas are the couple of change. They are post-passive aggressive.

@Martin: You will note that, despite the fact that the trip was “unexpected,” there were “many substantive matters” discussed.
