A cop’s view of illegal immigrants and the Arizona law: Anyone who knows how the police actually work would not be afraid of the Arizona law

Jack Dunphy, the nom de cyber of a serving Los Angeles police officer, offers a cop’s view of illegal immigrants and the Arizona law on National Review Online.

“I suspect most otherwise law-abiding illegal immigrants in Arizona will have little to fear from this new law,” Dunphy writes. “As few police officers will invest the time and trouble to detain someone who, though illegally in this country, is causing no trouble to the community.”

Dunphy goes on to note that there are enough illegal immigrant hoodlums to occupy the attention of the police, so families need not fear being harassed on their way to the ice-cream parlor whether they’re illegal immigrants or not.

“Despite the president’s dire warnings, I don’t envision stakeouts at Baskin-Robbins in Tucson,” Dunphy writes.

  1. People are not really concerned with what the real world brings us. If you want to experience profiling up close and personal, buid your self an old worn out looking Harley motorcycle, have a gray beard and wear work clothes. You will get to meet nice police officers who can find any # of reasons to pull you over. Guess what else, they always ask for my papers (license, insurance, registration) and in the end because the bike is exempt from modern day amenities, I get to go on my way……. because I am legal and my papers are in order. Yes this happens a couple of times a year until the local police recognize you, but then you ride through a different town and the inevitable cop car starts following you. The problem is when I am on my brand new/modern motorcycle in newer jeans and a jacket….. I have never been pulled over….. I dont see Obama calling traffic enforcement “misguided”.
