About two dozen women walked topless on the sidewalks of Portland, Maine, in order to support the right of women to… walk around topless. The women were ”preceded and followed by several hundred boisterous and mostly male onlookers, many of them carrying cameras.”

Ty McDowell, who organized the march, said she was “enraged” by the turnout of men attracted to the demonstration. The purpose, she said, was for society to have the same reaction to a woman walking around topless as it does to men without shirts on.

But society doesn’t, and it isn’t going to any time soon. “McDowell said she plans to organize similar demonstrations in the future and said she would be more ‘aggressive’ in discouraging oglers.”

That’ll show those ogling men — get lots of women to walk around topless again and again until the men learn their lesson and stop… no, wait, that won’t work. Ms. McDowell, you organized a march of women walking around topless, you promoted it to the general public, and you’re enraged when men show up? Were you surprised that men wanted to look at women’s breasts? What did you think was going to happen?

So next time you’ll be more aggressive about “discouraging oglers.” Will you be topless while you’re being more aggressive? Because some guys probably like that.
