Change the good old boys can believe in

Recently, some women have worked themselves into a tizzy over President Obama and his good old boys club. Apparently, the ladies are feeling slighted as a result of the current White House testosterone-laden culture of ESPN, basketball games, and fist bumps. A major faux pas occurred when Obama sent out invitations to a White House basketball game with nary a woman on the list. Similarly, despite Obama’s many weekend golf games, only last weekend did a woman finally make it out to the links.

Women’s groups argue that this sends the wrong message, particularly to the large female base that supports Obama. All-male games of basketball and rounds of golf perpetuate the old boy network rule of no girls allowed, either purposefully or accidentally.

My question is: do women really want an invite to these basketball and golf games? I say hell no.

First of all, I’m not really into sweating. Nor am I into getting hit in the face with a basketball. Didn’t anyone see The Brady Bunch episode where Marcia got hit in the face with a ball? Granted, it was a football, but does it really matter? It was a large ball. And after getting hit in the nose with that ball, Marcia couldn’t go out on a date with the big man on campus. What if Hillary got hit in the face with a ball? That could be disastrous for international relations.

Second, I’m also not into lugging around golf clubs through eighteen holes all in the name of fun. That’s called physical labor and that may involve sweating. See the first point for my feelings on sweating.

This is the administration of change. Therefore, for the sake of women everywhere, I say we make a real change: we call an end to sports and instead, go for a day of beauty. President Obama should invite members of his administration, male and female, to the spa for mani/pedis, hair extensions, and maybe a wax for good measure. Lord knows some of them need it.
