What might keep Mesac Damas out of heaven

I’m not an authority on heaven. I don’t know precisely what is required to get in. I have an idea, though, about what is likely to keep someone out. CNN.com reports:

A Florida man admitted to reporters that he killed his wife and five “innocent” children, adding that he wants to be executed “right away” so he can be buried with them on Saturday.

Mesac Damas, 32, said he wanted to take his own life, but did not have the courage to go through with it, “because if you kill yourself, you’re not going to heaven.”

Mesac, even though I’m no theologian, I don’t think suicide is your biggest problem here. And what a cowardly, selfish reason not to kill yourself. But I like that you’re taking responsibility for your actions:

Asked by the reporter in Haiti why he killed his family, Damas responded, “Only God knows.” Questioned further, he blamed the crime on his mother-in-law. “Her mom pretty much made me do it — the devil, her spirit, whatever she worships,” he said.

It’s always the mother-in-law’s fault.

  1. why are most of the nuts in this world religious… Oh yeah because they believe in fairy tales to begin with.

  2. I’ve known more than my share of nuts – I used to edit psychiatric papers and I hung out with psychiatrists and psychologists. By no means are all of them religious. Though obviously, if you are nuts and are religious, your nuttiness is likely to take a religious form. Also, don’t underestimate the truth of fairy tales.

  3. Hmm, I think, speaking from a Christian point of view, that there might be another reason why St. Peter won’t be letting Damas in through the pearly gates.

    I could be wrong though.
