Summary:

These blurb summaries will never do any of these books justice. But, in this volume we discover Jesse’s back story, including his childhood, parents, and relationship with Tulip. Jesse’s grandmother is a demented old hag with bizarre religious connections. Starr is introduced as is the organization he works for: The Grail (a super-secret super-powered group that has protected and forced the inbreeding of Jesus’ children for centuries). Starr mistakenly takes Cassidy prisoner believing he is Jesse. Tulip meets God. Jesse talks to a super-natural being in the form of John Wayne—possibly Genesis, possibly the Devil, and possibly evidence of a psychotic break due to childhood trauma; but not a ghost of John Wayne because the apparition appeared before John Wayne’s death.

The premise of the series also becomes clear: what would happen if man was an equal in the war between Heaven and Hell. No longer simply taking a side for religious or personal beliefs, but actually able to compete. So far in the series, God is upset about the situation and the Devil hasn’t seemed to notice. However, the question is more interesting than anything I have encountered on a printed page in quite a while.

There are a lot of specifics but I can’t elaborate without giving it away. However, volumes three and four will be much more in depth.

Just Fantastic appears the second and fourth Wednesday of every month.
