Fred's dreams

Car

March 20, 2009
I dream I am embarrassed to be in a supermarket with my mother. I tell her that I will get her a cart and put saltine crackers into it and then give it to her and meet afterwards. I am crestfallen to discover that they are out of saltine crackers and therefore I can’t complete my task. On the way home, I get turned around. Fortunately, I have with me a small model of a car which contains the soul of the car I’m driving. I get out when the traffic is slow and I turn around my model car with the assumption that this will fix things with the car I’m driving. It doesn’t work and I am stuck on the road. People honk.

I dream I come home and see that my car is parked in the driveway, but partly on top of my father’s car. It looks precarious, and I want to get it off, but when I try to move it, it falls in between my father’s car and the neighbor’s car. It is a very tight squeeze, and my bumper falls off. I want to park on the other side of the street, so I go through a little service road behind a neighbor’s house. The road is kind of odd, like a children’s story. I ride past the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, and an eerie little pig.

I dream my father drives me to a moat on the edge of an arena/bowling alley and I have to meet my dissertation advisors on the other side. My advisors and I are wearing white tights. I am a little worried about diving into the water, but my father dives in ahead of me. I grab a deck of cards and dive in after him. At the other side of the moat, my father emerges as Captain Picard of the Starship Enterprise, and we meet two of my advisors. Picard and I protest the need to go under water to do my dissertation, but the advisors are unyielding. All members of my committee agree that underwater dissertations are appropriate. Picard argues eloquently, but to no avail.
